The federal government’s commitment to reviving the Nigerian football leagues has been reaffirmed by Senator John Owan-Enoh, Minister of Sports Development. BUA Group Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, and other notable investors are being urged to invest in local football clubs.

In keeping with his ongoing conversation to transform the nation’s football scene, Enoh pledged during his meeting with renowned business magnate Tony Elumelu.
He emphasized the value of strategically funding the local league to foster confidence in football, Nigeria’s national sport.

“We must establish a domestic framework that embodies the captivating, vivacious, and unwavering Nigerian essence,” he stressed.

To promote economic growth, revenue generation, job creation, and national unity, he urged the private sector to invest in sports development and take advantage of its numerous opportunities.

In a statement released by his SA media representative, Diana-Mary Nsan, Senator Enoh reflected on his goals for the growth of sports in Nigeria and stressed the need for a structural framework that tackles the fundamental issues facing the football ecosystem.

As a sports ministry, we don’t look for quick fixes. Building a strong framework that addresses problems at the local level is our goal. Let’s step up to the plate and restore the national league’s glory,” he pleaded.

The minister said that only cooperation between the public and private sectors will enable Nigerian sports to reach their full potential on the international arena. Abdul Samad Rabiu, the chairman of BUA Group, virtually joined him in their conversation with Elumelu.
