Breaking: Former Ondo Deputy Governor Secures PDP Guber Ticket, To Face Off Against Current Aiyedatiwa

In the state’s November 16 2024 governorship election Ajayi Agboola, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominee has been chosen.

During the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s first term in office which lasted from 2016 to 2020, Ajayi was his deputy governor until their disagreement. He received 264 votes bettering the total of 264 opponents which included Hon. Kolade Akinjo received 157 votes placing him in second place.

Also, a former commissioner for the Environment Chief Ebiseni Olusola trailed behind with 99 votes while Engr. Adeolu Akinwumi received 64 votes placing him third and fourth respectively.

Bosun Arebuwa received two votes Otunba Bamidele Akingboye received 24 John Ola Mafo a former state commissioner for information received nine votes and the exercise was conducted on Thursday.

Not less than 621 delegates from the state’s 18 local government areas took part in the shadow election which was hotly contested by the seven candidates.

In the main auditorium of the International Event Centre in Akure the capital of Ondo State the delegates began to cast their votes at around two in the morning. The accreditation of the delegates began at around ten.

Security personnel with guns from the Department of State Services (DSS) Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the States Police Command were heavily positioned at the location.

To oversee the primary election representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also present.
