The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) Ilorin Zonal Command has detained Prophet Adeniyi James, the General Overseer of the CAC Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry, in Ilorin. James is accused of defrauding a church member out of N3,980,000.

In a petition to the Commission, the victim, Oluwole Babarinsa, claimed that he was called out by Prophet James at a church program in 2021, saying he had received a revelation that he would be traveling overseas. As per the petitioner’s account, during the revelation, the cleric inquired about his preferred country, to which he responded with “Canada.”. They then apparently agreed to speak again later to finalize the travel plans.

He claimed that the prophet later informed him that, for a fee of N1.7 million for the processing of the flight ticket and N2.5 million for the travel documents, respectively, he had a friend in Lagos who could assist him in making the move to Canada. The petitioner went on to say that to raise the N3,980,000 he needed to help the prophet move to Canada as soon as possible, he had to sell some of his properties and take out loans.

The petitioner was impatient and started to doubt the prophet’s vision after waiting for a long time without receiving any response. This led him to request a reimbursement of his money.

He claimed that despite his best attempts and pleas, the suspect had not responded to his requests for a refund. The suspect will be charged in court after the investigations are finished, according to a statement signed by EFCC Chief of Media and Publicity Dele Oyewake.
