Atletico Madrid beat Dortmund 2-1 in the first Champions League quarterfinal match, even though Dortmund tried to score in the end.

In the first half, Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino scored goals for Diego Simeone’s team, giving them a strong lead. But Sebastien Haller scored a goal for the German team, giving them a chance in the next game in Dortmund.

Edin Terzic’s team, who are in fifth place in the Bundesliga, did much better after a slow start. They almost scored two goals at the end of the game. Security at the stadiums was increased because the Islamic State (IS) group threatened the stadiums used for the last eight matches.

Atletico Madrid started the game quickly, they were eager to take advantage of a great chance to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2017.

Dortmund couldn’t handle the Rojiblancos’ strong defense, and De Paul scored for the home team after Ian Maatsen made a mistake with the ball.

Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel threw the ball to the Chelsea defender who is on loan. The defender got scared and made a bad pass, which De Paul quickly took.

The player from Argentina scored a goal and the crowd got even louder.

Atletico has not lost any of their home Champions League knockout games in the 12 years Simeone has been in charge, and they continued to attack with confidence.
