Before the state’s governorship election this year, Olayide Adelami, the deputy governor of Ondo State, dissolved his political structure into that of Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of the state.

With more than 8,000 members, the Adelami Political Movement is now known as Aiyedatiwa/Adelami Grassroots Mobilizers, and it now includes members from all 18 of Ondo State’s local government areas.

According to a statement from the deputy governor’s office, Olayide Adelami, the current deputy governor of Ondo State, ran in the 2020 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary.

The group’s director general, Segun Ogodo, who on Wednesday led the movement’s leadership to the deputy governor’s office in Akure, stated that the decision to dismantle Aiyedatiwa’s structure sprang from the belief that the governor alone is capable of elevating the state to a higher level.

He said, “Dr Adelami went out of his way to donate massively to the campaign of Arakunrin Akeredolu in 2020 and that was part of the things that gave us result. After the election, he kept sustaining us across the 18 local government areas till date.

“The structure has remained vibrant and solid for grassroots political mobilisation since then. We can boast of over 8,000 APC registered members across the state who are ready to work for the return of Aiyedatiwa as governor of Ondo state”

Ogodo congratulated the deputy governor on his appointment, stressing that he is indeed a great leader who will definitely compliment the governor’s effort targeted at transforming the state across all sectors.

In his response, the deputy governor thanked members of the group for their loyalty and support throughout the time of struggle in the 2020 governorship election

He tasked members of the group on aggressive grassroots mobilisation for Governor Aiyedatiwa to emerge victorious in the November 2024 governorship election.

He said “It gladdens my heart that I urged you all to work relentlessly for the governor to emerge victorious in the coming election. Let us be united and put in every effort to make the Aiyedatiwa project a success.

Local government coordinators and state executive committees of the group attended the ceremony, including the convener, Olusola Alajo, the woman leader, Funke Ogunode, Pioneer State Welfare Officer of the APC in Ondo state, Jerome Olorunyolemi, and Convener of the Youth Vanguard, Leye Akinola.
