In the Kajola local government area of Oyo State where an election is scheduled for this Saturday fourteen suspected political thugs have been arrested for attacking election officials and stealing ballot papers.

However, a source claimed that the ballots that were stolen had been found on the suspects and that 14 or so of them had been taken into custody. The anonymous source disclosed that the impacted voting materials have been returned to Ibadan.

When reached Isiaka Olagunju the chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) acknowledged the assault on election officials but refuted the claim that any ballots were taken.

The Divisional Police Officer in the town has been ordered to apprehend the suspects Olagunju insisted on Friday. It is untrue. The truth is that last night our officials were the target of an attack. At our Okeho office, there was an attack on our officials. Not a single ballot was stolen.

The Electoral Officer (EO) was followed back to Ibadan by the DPO of Okeho and other security agencies. Right now they returned to Okeho. Additionally, we have given the Okeho DPO instructions to apprehend the suspects. That is the truth according to Olagunju.
