The governor of Kogi State Alhaji Ahmed Ododo unveiled 44 motorcycles and over 120 new security vehicles on Friday to improve community policing effectiveness throughout the state’s 21 local government districts.

The goal of the new security car fleet which was given to each of the state’s 21 local government units was to support Governor Ododos’s administration community policing program via the Kogi State Vigilante Service.

It was also one of the steps taken to create the framework for a fresh approach to community policing as a component of Kogi States security architecture. The governor stated in his speech that the action was taken to rein in the criminal excesses in each of the state’s 21 local government areas.

He went on to say that it would make it easier for vigilantes to travel around the state in their different areas. The governor gave his word that his administration was dedicated to implementing effective state policing and that security is a top priority in any society.

While assuring them that the state government was already working on their welfare he urged the vigilantes to operate within the law and not get involved in any criminal activities in their various communities.

More vehicles will be given to other state security agencies in the coming days according to Governor Ododo’s announcement. He promised the vigilantes that he would name the new vigilante service commander by the end of next week.

 

It is without a doubt necessary for Kogi State to continue being a safe and secure place for everyone to fulfill the goals of our policies and programs. Therefore the unveiling of operational vehicles and the recent implementation of the Metropolitan Quick Response in Lokoja and other major towns in the state are among a series of evolving security measures geared towards ensuring that we keep our environment safe and building on the strong foundation of the security architecture laid by the states immediate past administration. . Let me say clearly that we are fully committed to upholding law and order in every part of the state and that we must prevail in the battle against criminals as we begin a systematic assessment of the security situation in our state.

The progress and prosperity that we have laboriously worked to establish in our state cannot and will not be undermined by criminal elements the governor declared. Therefore he praised President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to reversing the country’s string of inherited security challenges.

We want to reassure you Mr. President once again that we are dedicated to a comprehensive strategy to address security challenges in the state and our nation overall. We will work hand in hand with you to quickly identify and apprehend the remaining members of these criminal organizations and their financiers. Mr. President is providing us with all the necessary support to ensure the security of lives and property in all parts of the state because he understands the strategic ramifications of any security breach in Kogi as a gateway state to the North and the South.

To ensure that our people are safe to engage in lawful economic activities Ododo continued as such this new addition to our security master plan will involve all security agencies feeding on credible intelligence and direct community engagement with our people in the farms markets homes and every part of the community. .
