The National Basketball Association (NBA) Africa has announced the launch of the Triple-Double: NBA Africa Startup Accelerator a startup accelerator based on the continent focused on early-stage African startup companies. This initiative supports President Joe Bidens Digital Transformation with Africa Initiative and builds on the United States Department of Commerce Africa strategy.

Triple-Double: By giving African tech entrepreneurs of tomorrow access to funding and mentorship that will spur expansion in the sports and creative industries the NBA Africa Startup Accelerator will support the continents tech ecosystem.

Early-stage African startups that develop solutions in event management and ticketing youth development artificial intelligence (AI) and digital marketing for the sports and creative industries are welcome to apply to the Triple-Double: NBA Africa Startup Accelerator run by ALX Ventures a top technology incubator that gives the continents tech leaders access to the knowledge and resources they need to launch and grow their businesses. Applications for participation in triple-double accelerators are open to startups. NBA. com until Friday May 31 at which point the entries will be whittled down to the top 10.

After that the 10 chosen startups will be matched with mentors made up of ALX and NBA Africa executives as well as other corporate stakeholders. The mentors will offer advice to the businesses with an emphasis on go-to-market strategy product development and business growth. During the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September NBA Africa will host a Demo Day in New York City.

On April 24 United States Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo and Director of the United States Trade and Development Agency Enoh T. joined NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi in making the announcement. Ebong at the Business Summit held in Nairobi Kenya by the American Chamber of Commerce.

These amazing businesses will be at the forefront of influencing how sport is shaped in Africa going forward and this ground-breaking new initiative reflects our commitment to growing the regional sports ecosystem.

 

Over 10,000 security guards and about 16,000 ad hoc employees are expected to be present at the local government election on Saturday, according to Mr. Dot Isiaka Olagunju, Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).

For the local government election, 6,398 polling places are expected to be held throughout the state.

This is happening as political parties, who were upbeat about their chances, stated that they were confident in Oyo’s local government election to be free and fair on Saturday.

Mr. Adegbenro Fagbemi, chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), stated that political parties were pleased with the way the processes leading up to Saturday’s election were going.

Fagbemi made this statement on Thursday at the OYSIEC headquarters in Ibadan, while representatives from political parties watched election materials being loaded into trucks and distributed to the various polling places.
